The first step to this is to find some. First come the roots of the trees, which are not very hard to identify, and a good tool is a very inexpensive, highly portable, hardwood cane. You will need the cane if you want to make a good braiding tool, as they are not very soft in any way, they tend to move in tiny pieces, sometimes even sliding backwards or forwards and usually getting stuck.
